2006 Spirit of Allison Graduation Award Recipient

Kevin Stahl

Kevin Stahl was presented a $500 Spirit of Allison Graduation Award at the Perry Hall High School Scholarship and Awards assembly. In presenting the award, Allison's parents Ronald Fisher, Sr. and Pat Fisher congratulated Kevin on his well written essay. He correctly pointed out that breast cancer can strike men as well as women. He also mentioned how his mother supported a friend through breast cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Allison's father said, "it gives us great pleasure to support students like Kevin who have been good students in high school and who take time to learn about breast cancer. That's what the mission of Allison's Fund is all about---promoting the awareness of breast cancer in young women and supporting education thru various scholarships and awards given in Allison's name."

Applicants for the award had to write a 500 word essay explaining how they exhibited the characteristics Allison exemplified, they are: leadership, artistic expression, courage, congeniality and volunteerism. Applicants were also asked to include in their essays their personal experience [family member, friends or neighbors] with or general knowledge of breast cancer. The award is given to the young person who writes the best essay explaining how he or she exhibits these characteristics; regardless of grades and college plans.

Additionally in his essay, Kevin wrote about how he felt his spirit was in sync with Allison's spirit because of their similarities and even some of their differences. Like Allison, Kevin displays artistic talent through art, music and theater. He has sung in his church choir, various choruses at Perry Hall High School, performed in spring musicals at the high school and sung in both the All-County and All-State Honor Choruses. He has held leadership roles in the high school choral program. He volunteers to perform karate demonstrations at charity events, volunteers at church dinners, tutors younger students and volunteers his artwork for Christmas card fund-raisers. Kevin says, "not everyone can stand up in public to speak (like Allison) or sing (like me). Knowing that I can and will is fundamental in getting the message about breast cancer awareness to a wider audience."

Kevin has been accepted into the Honors Music program at Towson University in Maryland. He plans to double major in Vocal Performance and International Studies.
